FAQs
Is your coffee whole bean or ground?
Whole bean only. We do not grind, on purpose: coffee starts losing aroma within minutes of grinding, and a $30 hand grinder or any burr grinder will get far more out of these beans than pre-ground ever could. Our brew guides list grind settings for V60, Chemex and AeroPress.
How fresh is it?
We roast in small batches through the week in Washington, DC, and orders ship within 2 business days of being placed. Most of our coffees taste best from about 5 days to 6 weeks after roasting.
How much is shipping?
$5 flat for standard shipping anywhere in the US (3 to 4 business days), free on orders of $45 or more. Express is $10 (1 to 2 business days). Full details in our shipping policy.
Can I pick up my order?
Yes, for free, at our roastery at 2400 T St NE, Washington, DC 20002. Choose pickup at checkout and we email you as soon as it is ready, with the pickup hours.
Which coffee should I start with?
If you drink coffee black or as pour over, start with a light roast like Chelbesa or Turaco. If you take milk, try a medium roast like San Vicente or Bombe Abore Medium. Want something wild? Look at the funky and fruit bomb collections. The Cellar Series gives you four bags to compare.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Not yet, but it is coming soon. Email team@shavicoffee.com and we will let you know the moment it launches.
How should I store the beans?
Keep the bag sealed, at room temperature, away from light and heat. Do not refrigerate. A bag stays at full flavour for about 2 to 3 weeks after opening.
What do "washed", "natural" and "anaerobic" mean?
They describe how the coffee fruit was removed from the bean after picking. Washed coffees are cleaner and brighter; naturals are dried inside the fruit and taste sweeter and fruitier; anaerobic lots are fermented in sealed tanks for funky, wine-like flavours. Our Brew Journal goes deeper.
What if something goes wrong with my order?
Email team@shavicoffee.com with your order number. Damaged or wrong items are replaced or refunded, no fuss. See the refund policy.
Do you sell to cafés and offices?
Yes. Wholesale customers get their own pricing, a reorder portal and delivery in the DC area. Start at our wholesale page or email team@shavicoffee.com.
Where else can I find Shavi?
We started in Tbilisi, Georgia, where we run cafés and a roastery, and we also roast in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In the US we roast in Washington, DC and pop up at events around the city. Follow @shavi.coffee.usa for dates.
